Meet Nola, lead teacher and director

Thank you for visiting our website!  I grew up in Provincetown and I have a deep love for the land and people who call it home.  After returning to Truro several years ago, I quickly found that many friends were struggling to find year-round, consistent child care for their children.  I was inspired to build a small early childhood program for my friends and neighbors. In the early years of a child’s life, I know how important it is to find a trustworthy, affordable, and dependable childcare provider.

I am passionate about working with children and I have been teaching professionally for the past eight years.  I received my Masters of Education from Sarah Lawrence College with a dual degree in Early Childhood Education (Birth-Second Grade) and Elementary Education (First-Sixth Grade).  I worked in a classroom with 2-3-year-olds at Sarah Lawrence College’s Early Childhood Center before becoming a public school teacher in New York City for four years. During my time as a teacher, I taught Kindergarten, first, and second grades. I also worked as a farm educator and I am trained in wilderness education.

In my time working with children in classroom and outdoor settings, I have developed a deep interest in the way a classroom’s physical design and daily routine affect the way children interact with one another and their environments.  I believe that through observation and documentation, we can come to understand young children’s modes of thinking, helping us to support each child as an individual while creating opportunities for children to deepen their interests and try something new!  I am enthusiastic about bringing children out into nature to help them develop a relationship with our Earth home and the plants and animals in our surroundings.

After all of my work with older children, I became re-inspired to work with toddlers through spending time with my young nieces in Truro and through meeting many children of similar ages as we moved through our days together.  It is beautiful and awe-inspiring to see how young children make sense of the world around them while developing language, physicality, social skills, and more. In a safe, nurturing, and creative environment, young ones truly have the potential to thrive! I am inspired by many early childhood philosophies including Reggio Emilia, Waldorf, Montessori, and Prospect School. That being said, I do not strictly follow one particular school of thought. Most of my practices come from teachers and mentors I have worked with, as well as through careful observation of children at play.
