Earthstar Play School opened its doors in 2019 with just six students and the support of a generous Truro family, who offered the ground floor of their home for us to transform into our little school. It was a leap of faith rooted in the belief that early childhood education is essential to a thriving community, both for our youngest residents and their working families.
Just months into our first year, the pandemic hit. It was a challenging time to be a new school, but through determination, flexibility, and the unwavering support of our community, we stayed open—and even grew during that period. In 2021, we moved into our current home at 1 Depot Road, where Earthstar continues to grow and thrive.
In 2024, Earthstar became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This transition reflects our deep commitment to making high-quality early education both affordable and accessible to Truro’s families, while also building a sustainable model for our school and staff. We’ve seen firsthand the gap between what families can afford and the true cost of running an early childhood program on the Outer Cape. Our nonprofit status allows us to help bridge that gap with the support of grants, generous individuals, and local businesses who believe in our mission.
At its heart, Earthstar is more than a school—it’s a community. We believe young children thrive when they are cared for in beautiful spaces, supported by nurturing adults, grounded in a predictable rhythm, and free to explore the world at their own pace. We are deeply grateful to every family and supporter who has helped shape Earthstar and carry its vision forward.
